The vision of "Hike with a Psych" came from my recognition and appreciation for the journey of life. The moment I had truly let go of my pursuit for a destination and fully embraced the moment I was in. Being a hiker has taught me so much about the process of life. Most importantly it taught me how to appreciate the time in-between the beginning and the end - the arrival and the departure. Hiking through nature runs parallel to hiking through our past, our emotions, our thoughts, and our beliefs.
Life is as much about finding direction as it is about embracing aimlessness. Sometimes there is no where else to go. In these moments it is important to take a moment and appreciate where we are, and, most importantly, that we are. Smell the flowers, listen to the river, watch the clouds, or feel the air flowing around your body. Beauty and peace are states of mind.
I like to think of myself as a Psychological Sherpa: someone who helps others ascend the mountains of life. Sometimes our baggage is to heavy to make it to the top, the weight is simply to much for our body to bear alone. When we share the weight, or disperse the burden, it is easier to make it to our destination. We even arrive with more energy to appreciate the vista at the end.
Whether talking in an office, walking in a park, meeting at a trailhead, or traveling to transcend; start your journey!
