A therapeutic bond is one of the most unique and powerful forms of relationship. Its basis is an unwavering trust in the warm compassion and complete acceptance from another individual. To be seen, heard, understood, and valued. To come as we are and be welcomed with open arms. To learn more about ourselves through connecting with another human being through sharing experiences and insights. To be challenged and encouraged to grow. This is the therapeutic relationship.
The way a therapist approaches a relationship is their "orientation" or therapeutic style. Common labels you will hear (or have heard) are: cognitive-behavioral, psychoanalytic, humanistic, and integrative. Realistically everyone is in-part eclectic - a mixture of styles - as everyone can only be themselves. The ideal therapist is someone you can connect-to and openly communicate-with, if these prerequisites are not met then therapeutic success will be hard to achieve. Regardless of approach, find someone who suits you as this will be the true measure of your success.
Education is a never ending process. The boundaries of the unknown are always being pushed by the known. I am a firm believer in research and teaching; really anything representing the pursuit of knowledge. At the core of my intellectual interests is Existentialism, Phenomenology, and the intrapsychic dynamics of individual psychology - depth psychology. I have and am happy to conduct research, education, and didactic training on any of the dimensions of these theories and the intersections they share.
